 PART  1 

DEFINITION 

A caption is a short text above or below an image in a book, magazine, or newspaper that describes the image or explains what the person in it did or said.


STRUCTURE 

can be : 

a. Action, event, or activity. 

b. People or things that are involved. 

c. Condition, what happened in the picture. 

d. who or where the picture was published. 


LANGUAGE ELEMENTS 

1.  Caption text must be short.

2. Caption text, uses noun phrases 

3. Caption text, uses verb phrases

Practice 1 : 

Readout these two captions (Text 1 and Text 2) loudly and meaningfully and take a note on your notebook if you find some words that you don't understand. Then consult the dictionary. 


Text 1: 
What a ride: Jakartans enjoy a trial run of the first phase of the Jakarta MRT, Which connects Lebak Bulus in South Jakarta to the Hotel Indonesia traffic circle in Central Jakarta, on Tuesday. City-owned PT MRT Jakarta is carrying out a free trial of its new service until March 24, aiming to attract 285,000 passengers. ( The Jakarta Post/Wendra Ajistyatama)

Practice 5:

Read these three captions (text4,5and 6) Then answer the questions that follow each text. Write your answer with a complete answer on your notebook.

Text 4 :

Questions : 

1. What is the Text about?

Answer: The text is about SMAN 70's Birthday anniversary. 

2. Who are in the picture?

Answer: The ministry of sports and the ministry of rural are in the picture. 

3. What do they do based on the picture?

Answer: They attend SMAN 70 anniversary.

4. Where did the picture publish?

Answer: The picture publishes on SMAN 70 News. 

5. Why did the writer write this text?

Answer: The writer wrote the text because the students of SMAN 70 look so enthusiastic to meet the ministries


Questions :

1. What is the text about?

Answer: The text is about first-quarter sales. 

2. What data is given on the right?

Answer: Sales.

3. What data is given on the bottom?

Answer: Salesperson.

4. Who might be interested to this data?

Answer: Salesperson.

5. Why did the writer write this text?

Answer: To inform first quarter sales on January to March 2013.

PART 2 


Previously in my blog part 1, I explain the definition, structure, and language caption text. 

For now, in part 2 I'll share with you how to made caption text in the right way. 


1.Do not use articles such as a, an, or the

2. As much as possible use Present Tenses so that the picture can be described

3. Give the reader information that is not obtained from just looking at the picture

4. The existence of the caption is to complete the photo, not a substitute for the photo

5. Writing the caption does not need to start with the name

6. Writing a caption to indicate an individual, can use the word "from left," NOT "from left to right."

7. No need to write clear words like “Above” and “pictured here”

8. Mention the name in the caption only if the name is really important

9. Start writing a good caption in English with some variations of the following words:

prepositional phrases

infinitive -phrases

participial phrases

adjective phrases

questions

exclamations

Tips for writing a good caption in English above, of course, can't all be used in one photo. There are some that must be adjusted based on the context.

CONCLUSION : 


So what conclusion in this all part? 


Caption text is 

the caption use noun phrase and verb phrase. 

the structure can be action, people or thing condition, what happened on the picture. 

a short text above or below an image in a book, magazine, or newspaper that describes the image or explains what the person in it did or said. 

To make a caption text don't begin the words a, an or the.
